Hotel Isabel in Mexico city’s historical downtown. Placed in an authentic colonial building and surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Mexico city’s lively streets was a gem. The price was affordable costing us a total of $1,148 MXN or $79 CAD for 2 nights.

The staff were friendly and pleasant. The room was very clean, the ceilings were high they could have inserted another floor. The general space of the hotel courtyard and lobby where full of charm. The room was everything we needed except the lack of a balcony which you have to ask for and we didn’t so we where booked in the available room and we were without a window or balcony. Leaving a somewhat claustrophobic feel.
The bed was firm and the furniture sturdy and the floor creaking with every step. The walls thin enough to hear your neighbors shower or clap cheeks .

I particularly enjoyed the restaurant attached to the hotel as it had affordable prices and was staffed by excellent service. Not only quality and authentic cuisine but quick and affordable for the budget traveler.

The elevator you can take to get to your room is slow but it gets the job done I consistently beat Meli by taking the stairs up or down. From the moment you leave your hotel your thrust into a hustling bustling metropolis full of smiles, frowns, good and bad smells but For Meli and me, we wouldn’t want it any other way. There is something to be said about authenticity and the hotel Isabel is just that.
